Namecheap’s Second Annual Move Your Domain Day 2013

SOPA, EFF and Namecheap. What seems to be similar? Yes! Like last year, Namecheap again announced MoveYourDomain Day on coming 22nd January.

Previous MoveYourDomain Day was against SOPA in which some amount from each domain was donated to Electronic Frontier Foundation to support their No Closed Internet fight. A total of $64000 was donated to EFF then came blackouts and in the end SOPA was thwarted.

This year there is nothing like that but there may be. Politicians, lawmakers etc are always trying to squeeze neck of internet freedom and it’s ideology. So, as they are not giving up, EFF also needs to be standing always. This move by Namecheap will be doing that.

There is more. From each domain transfer there will be donation of $0.50 to EFF. If on 22nd Jan, Namecheap gets 10,000 transfers then this donation will be $1 and $1.5 if there are 20,000 transfers.

What’s in this for you and me? You are getting domain transfers at cheap rate of $3.99 + 0.18 cents of ICANN fee (.COM/.NET). There is only one limit. Transfer at this rate will be available for 50 domains per account. Just keep your eye open and wait for the day.

I am also waiting for this 22nd with excitement as I have some domains to transfer to Namecheap and support this cause.
