Well, it’s been too long since last post that I didn’t write anything. This USB Huawei Device/Modem unlocking article wasn’t in schedule but just out of curiosity, I unlocked my Idea Netsetter EG162G USB Modem device yesterday and I want to write about it to get things going. So let’s start.

NEED:

What I wanted to do is unlock my Idea Netsetter (Huawei EG162G GPRS/EDGE Modem) as it was Locked with Idea. I wanted to use it with any Network and Operator so I can have better Internet and all time availability. When you insert any other SIM the device will ask for Unlock Code like this:  (Note: The graphic will depend on Software and your ISP/Network but as Hardware is same, it WILL ask for code.)

SCOPE:

Even if I am writing this article regarding unlocking of Huawei EG162G by using Unlock Code but it also applies to Unlocking of following Devices and Modem:

1. Huawei Devices and Modems Series:

E156 E155, E1550 E1552, E156G E160, E160G E161 E166,
169 E169G, E170, E172, E176 E1762 E180 E182E E196 E226 E270,
E800,E870 E880 EG162 E880 EG162 EG162G EG602 EG602G,
E271, E272, E510 E612 E618 E630 ,E620 E630+ E660 E660a,
K2540, K3515 , K3520, K3565, K3520, K3565

2. Some of the Nokia, ZTE, NEC, VK and LGkg110 devices. Not Tested with them.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Your Device/Modem and it’s IMEI.
  2. Computer with Minimum of Windows XP
  3. And this Universal Unlocker by darmiles. Download Here.

PROCEDURE:

Procedure is rather simple. After downloading the Unlocker from above you have to unrar/unzip it to a local folder on your computer. This unlocker generates an unlock code for Huawei and other devices from their IMEI so get your IMEI printed on your device or modem. (If you can’t find the IMEI on device, then connect it to computer and in your Connection software look for Diagnostic or Troubleshoot option. There you will find IMEI)

Now, put any SIM Card other than your original one. Saying in simple, put new SIM Card which you want to use with this device. Next, connect your device to computer. Wait for initialization of device. It will ask for Unlock Code to Unlock the device as shown above. Leave it open like that.

Run the Unlocker and select Huawei (whichever Company your device is) and then Type in your IMEI. Press Calculate and it will give you an Eight Digit (Mostly) Unlock Code.

Copy paste this Code to the Unlock Code box which we left opened. Hit Ok. The Dialog Box will disappear. Wait for some time as it will detect your network and start showing it.

So, we are done! Your device is unocked for all the SIM cards and networks. To set-up internet and GPRS settings for your SIM and Network refer this post.

Enjoy…

P.S: Even if you unlocked device for all Networks, you will need ISP/APN settings to connect to internet specific to the SIM card and Network you are using.Use this link to set-up settings.
