New SBI Classic Debit VISA Cards with CVV and Expiry Date

Finally, SBI heard people and did something great. State Bank of India is now issuing Debit card which are not Maestro cards. SBI is now providing VISA debit cards. I am serious.

These cards are called as SBI Classic Debit Cards. My brother just got his previous Maestro Debit Card lost and so he applied for new card. To the surprise, SBI sent this new kind of Card. Totally classy. I am really excited to leak out the first images of it (yes I searched, it’s nowhere on internet).

So, let’s see what are the benefits of this VISA card over old Maestro one;

– It is real VISA card not VISA electron etc. Real one with real logo and VISA Verified.
– It has expiry date.
– It has a CVV code.
– Its acceptance increased online as it is VISA.
– It still needs 3D-Secure code. (you need to register it by yourself)
– You can get it by requesting new card from your State Bank of India branch.
– It’s not ugly. Lol. It’s beautiful.Β Really!

Now, take a first look available exclusively here,

Front Side:

Back Side:

SBI Classic VISA card

I think now it will be easy to get your Entropay Virtual Visa Credit Card as you just need to follow this post and only use your real information available. No more calculations needed and everything will be totally legal (if someone thinks that last process wasn’t legal.)

If you try to Entropay VCC with this, please use real info (because it is available on this card) and report back.

So, grab yours by visiting your branch. I will be getting mine soon. :-).

Comment generously. I will reply as I always do!

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      August 9, 2011 at 8:44 pm

@Lanu:Banking rule dear Lanu… You can't have another card for same account and name. You can have two cards if it is a joint account. As you will activate new one, last one will get deactivated.

hey, i applied for both cards and got both. only problem is you have to pay 200 extra if u want to get the visa debit card with vcc code and all. but however i have tried loading form visa debit card from sbi ..mrinal the same one u posted a picture about, and it doesnt seem to get transferred. the amount doesnt get loaded on to my entropay virtual credit card. funny thing is untill recently it used to work from maestro card and now for some reason it too is not working…i shot an email to the entropay guys and they told me tat its becoz there is some problem from maestro card backend and it would take somme months to rectify it. can u or someone please confirm if its true ..and r u guys able to still load the amount form ur maestro debit cards…or even the new sbi visa yuva debit card….please shoot a email to me too at liaison4fun@gmail.com

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      August 17, 2011 at 1:41 am

@deep:It will take sometime for me to confirm that Maestro is loading or not as I don't have cash for that. So… sorry that I couldn't tell you that. Regarding VISA debit card. Make sure your card is attached to your account. Important thing; Did you registered your card on 3D-secure and Verified by Visa sites? Try that and let me know.

    August 17, 2011 at 4:58 am

Can SBI visa classic card be also used for online international payments like tha of visa silver card

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      August 31, 2011 at 7:37 pm

@sandeep:This is still unclear. I think silver card is credit card but this Classic is a debit card. Classic VISA is reported to be working to fund Entropay which is an international transaction but no one reported that they used it directly for international online purchases.

I have opened a new a/c and got a sbi silver international debit card. What is it's annual charge? Is it same as the old yellow color card?

  13. Avik Ghosh

    September 16, 2011 at 12:03 am

One more thing is i have got a booklet along with the card where minimum withdrawal amount Rs.500 is written. Is it true?

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      September 16, 2011 at 3:37 am

@Avik Ghosh: I checked but I couldn't find specially written charges. So for now I will consider that it is same as old one. Regarding minimum withdrawal thing you should get back to customer support. If it is written then possibility is that will be like that.

    December 2, 2011 at 12:50 am

Thanks for the post Is the new card free, is there any initial and annual charges. There is no card in sbi site with similar picture, so looks like its charges are similar to classic maestro (free). Please confirm this, thanks

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      December 2, 2011 at 2:22 am

@arnold:I don't know about the cost. However many people got it for free as they reported stolen card. SBI site only mention this card but didn't give pictures anywhere.

  21. arnold

    December 2, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Thanks for the reply. visa cards normally costs 500 per year and 500 first time (as per sbi site) but are gold/premium cards, confusing… – my entropay attempt failed, tried – 3 days, 70$ ~ Rs 4000 is there any maximum transfer limit for sbi maestro

  22. arnold

    December 3, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Dear Mrinal, I have verified with the bank there is no extra charge, it is just like the old debit card (for new card processing Rs/-200) I have a question: Can I use this card to buy online in any currency, say my hosting bill etc, directly (without involving any 3rd party like entropay)

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      December 5, 2011 at 5:21 am

@arnold;I think that might be possible but I am not sure. However with this card it is now easy to get Entropay (Virtual Visa Card); as this is VISA and with 3 digit VCC code.

HI thnks for the info. my questions is that with this new classic debit card do i have to activate with 3D-Secure Code

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      December 12, 2011 at 3:55 am

@pratushaneja:Yes! it is mandatory for all and any kind of card. RBI mandate.

  25. arnold

    December 30, 2011 at 2:33 am

I got a MasterCard and it is NOT VISA CERTIFIED (front side master card, expi. date and back maestro, cvv). Looks like I lost the new card processing fees. Entropay support team confirms Maestro cards are NOT PROCESSING via their gateways, support team says "… Unfortunately, our payment processor is currently unable to process payments with Maestro cards. We hope this issue will be resolved within the next few months"

  26. Amit

    December 31, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Thanks for the info. When I recently went to my SBI branch, they said that VISA Classic debit card has problems with merchant payment & online transaction. They said that I should take the VISA Silver debit Card. When I asked as to what was the difference – they only said that the difference was limit of 40,000 for Classic and 50,000 for Silver. I have two queries: 1. Can you tell me whether the Classic debit card works for online payments on internet and for merchant swipe payments? 2. Are you aware if the silver card has any advantage over the classic debit card other than the ATM withdrawal limit? thanks

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      January 2, 2012 at 12:58 am

@Amit: 1> It works! 2> Not much. Just limits and reward points differences.

I got a master card and not visa card, its not working with entropay general service error

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      January 14, 2012 at 7:14 pm

@arnold:I never wrote that post for MasterCard. Because MasterCards have expiry dates and CVV codes. You shall enter all true info on your card. SBI authentication is not working properly from long and they are not interested to check it.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! I tried to create a paypal account with my new sbi classic debit card but after entering the card details it says that the 'try with a different card'.And then i tried to purchase a domine and hosting at godaddy.com and it also resulted in a error. Then i got them through bigrock.com which is a indian site. I want to be affiliate marketer and i really need a paypal account. 1.Now which card should i rely on? 2.Does sbi silver international debit card works for all international payouts?

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      January 14, 2012 at 7:23 pm

@Azmu:Indians are not allowed to use Debit cards with PayPal. Also Indians cant use PayPal to send any money to anyone (unless you are paying from Credit Card attached to it). You can only receive money and then compulsorily transfer this money to bank account. If you want Paypal. First create PayPal account and then authenticate it with Bank Account. Then add Credit card to it.

    January 11, 2012 at 6:19 pm

Should I go for Silver VISA Debit card. How long I have to wait? Mine have Classic VISA Debit and got on 27th Dec 2011. Is there charge?

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      January 14, 2012 at 7:25 pm

@Vin:Classic VISA shall work fine. It is with SBI authentication which gives out errors. There are always annual charges when it comes to Silver, Gold or Platinum cards. Case doesn't matter in most of the cases. However, it is always better idea to type as given on card.

greatttttt blog!!!!!!!!! really appreciable…! I am a student… having a saving account.. using 2 years with my matero atm cum debit card.. I never had a problem… actually I used to do online transaction using Internet Banking…..!! But now facing some problems like I want to buy a product from ebay. and they need paypal..!! sometimes in cesc bill payment need only debit card having cvv no and exp date. But I dont have such… so need a card from sbi having these features such that can activate my paypal account or do shopping using my debit card… I need your suggestion what type of card should I take ? I have taken the form from the branch. should I take yuva international debit card ? or Classic Debit Card or something else which will serve my purpose…!!! I really dont have any knowledge regarding this… and there is written in the form whether new or replace ? i have the mastero card …. should I mark on new or replace ? plzzzzz help…!!!!!!!!! and wants to know what is difference between yuva and classic debit card ? thank you

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      March 14, 2012 at 2:07 am

@joydeep: Thanks for praise! πŸ™‚ I think you shall go with Classic Debit Card which is a VISA Card (as far as I remember). If you have an option to select international transaction (also known as Overseas or Offshore Transactions); do take it. This will make your card work anywhere. Yeah! That will add some extra annual charges but don't worry! SBI charge and fees are way less than any other bank.

This debit card is absolutely useless and worthless. My room mate has an AXIS bank VISA International DEBIT card with a photo on it and it has a validity of 20 years. Not only hat it can be used to pay for anything..yes practically anything like a CREDIT CARD. and this useless SBI VISA shopping card is bogus xcept for atm and shopping. U cannot use it anywhere else. I study in IIT KGP and i cannot pay for my photography competitions with this card and my roomie has to pay for it.

oh. Thats nice. I am having my sbi maestro card safely. Will sbi provide me a new visa classic debit card without asking about/deactivating the maestro card? Is it possible to have two different cards (maestro & Visa) for a single sbi bank account? Lol! please help. And 1 more doubt! my maestro card's valid-from date is sep 2011, what is the expiry date? may 2017 or may 2016?

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      April 14, 2012 at 12:46 am

@Vijay:There can be two cards for one account but you will have to fill up the additional card form. If you apply for new card; definitely older one will get expired. This is standard security process. Try May-2017. Good luck.

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      April 18, 2012 at 1:48 am

@Ankit: The best now you can do is to get a real credit card which works great with PayPal. You can still send and receive payments via PayPal using your CC. If you put a Fixed Deposit of Rs. 20000; you can get a credit card from SBI against it. Other ways: Get a Standard Chartered or ICICI account and debit card with it. Their debit cards works flawlessly with Entropay. So then Entropay card can be used with PayPal. Also; if you live in metropolitan city then there is ICICI's B2 banking which provides Virtual Cards. SBI also started VCC via Internet banking but in Pune and Bangalore only. Hope you find some way out of it using above things.

SBI Classic Debit Card is not an international debit card. It is for domestic use only. So you can not able to use it for international transactions. If you need international card then go for SBI Silver International Debit Card. It looks same as the Classic one but color is silver. Charrges are same.

  56. Sridhar.S

    July 17, 2012 at 10:05 pm

Mrinal Buddekar Bhai.. I really appreciate the info and helping nature of ur's on this blog… But I noticed that you are providing some wrong info's on this page.. SBI YUVA INTERNATIONAL DEBIT CARD does not charge annual maintainance fee's and is valid for 10 years and the benefits are far better than classic debit card. Verify this by going to http://sbi.co.in/ and search for yuva in the page. You will get 2 results. check this out to know the features and benifits.. Hope this was helpful..:-)

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      July 18, 2012 at 3:05 am

@Sridhar.S: First thing; I am unable to find where I specifically said that Yuva International Card have annual Charges. So; I don't see of any false info. Other things I will point out: 1. YUVA Int is just on VISA platform (i.e VISA Electron). Not a MasterCard or True VISA. That Logo you see in front and at back "Verified by VISA" doesn't make it true VISA (if you know what true VISA means – it has charges attached to it). 2. YUVA INT Card doesn't have VISA Hologram logo and CVV or CVV2 Code. So, It can't be used for foreign transactions (one more proof that it is not true VISA). In fact it will have very limited usage. It's just named International. I don't know how many country accepts a card without True VISA or MasterCard. But they are very few for sure! 3. YUVA Int Card is an old card and still it is not even Maestro passed like other older cards. 4. It was brought for Students, dependents and non-working people mainly. So, means surely with lesser privileges. 5. Validity doesn't mean or prove anything. Your card will be worn out in 10 years. It's always much better to have lesser validity. 6. Lastly, charges; which I already cleared in first line. But let me give me you finance world and banks thingy. If a card doesn't have annual or any kind of charges (unless you got it as a deal or offer) then you aren't using a better card. Better services are never free. Sorry, I really don't see any benefits at high level. And yeah, I always do my research before writing! Thank you.

    July 27, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I finally got the SBI Silver International Debit Card and am extremely disappointed. Firstly, let me CONFIRM this with every one: Online purchases on foreign websites (not Indian) are NOT supported. Let me repeat that: With the SBI Silver International Debit Card you CANNOT make online purchases on NON-INDIAN WEBSITES (like Amazon, Ebay, Paypal, GoDaddy). A perfect case of false advertising. And as usual, their staff cannot tell their @## from their mouth so they don't know any better. BTW, this info is not mentioned ANYWHERE on their website or the card package that gets mailed to you. I've even visited their branch to complain and no one has a clue. Clearly SBI is in the stone age so don't waste your time with them.

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      July 29, 2012 at 5:20 pm

@Raj .S:Totally agree with you. The cards provided by SBI are useless. Always ditches you when needed for foreign transactions. They are not in stone age; they are in Ice Age.

Hi Mrinal, Very Informative Blog you have. I read many posts from your blog which are quite interesting and informative to read. Actually I have also got this International Silver Visa Debit Card from SBI and what a disappointment I had to face while doing International transactions. I tried this Card at 4 different websites which were International sites and at every transaction the only thing which was thrown at the face was "TRANSACTION DECLINED" Then I used my IDBI bank Debit card for the same purpose and the Transactions went smooth like a breeze . However this Card cannot be added to Paypal but I feel that this would surely work with Entropay . I hope in future SBI take some corrective action for the benefit of its customers. Thanks.

Good card with visa fascility. But useless dirty design like a dirty begger. Why this much big bank make these kinds of formless dirty cards. How to carry this card???

    September 17, 2012 at 3:24 pm

Sbi always provides useless cards. When we see at this card's face, we can understand the quality also. This card is created for tribal people only. If anyone need good visa card, open account in another bank.

      September 19, 2012 at 1:30 am

@JOHN PAUL DEBBARMA: In general case; SBI cards are not working with Entropay now. Still there are chances that actual VISA card may work. You have to try it to know. This is all person to person and location to location case.

every thing is fine…but i need know…its an international card…v can anywhere plz inform mee sooon

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      October 23, 2012 at 6:47 pm

@barathkumar: On backside of card there is something about the missing card when outside of India. Also, it is reported to work with Entropay which is an international transaction. So, it should be an international usage card.

what is diffrence between SIVAR VISA DEBIT CARD & CLASSIC VISA DEBIT CARD pls reply. .

    • Mrinal Buddekar

      November 7, 2012 at 11:25 am

@Bhavin Kakkad: Silver one have more limits at daily point of sales and also have less fees just Rs. 100 less. Biggest difference is the other one is an International card. So chances of it’s acceptance all over is more. Even on foreign currency internet sites – it has more scope. However, no one confirms it and I can’t spend like hell every time for experimenting. So, you gotta figure it out and let me know. πŸ˜€

why should we use entropay vcc morever sbi silver visa card consists of visa logo plus expiry date and cvv so we can directly use sbi silver visa card for online transcations but its totally false because sbi only gives visa logo card but not gives online trscations rights on this card so this card is totally waste card without online trscations rights

There is a big problem with respect to verified by visa transaction its useless and even not getting authenticated. It means u cannot use this card internationally. That Visa logo that appeared on ur card is just for a name sake. And u cant use it for paypal…SBI is bullshitting us.

@Bijay kumar Behera, What is the name of logo printed on your SBI Atm cum debit visa card /SBI Atm cum debit mastercard ? Does it includes exxpiry date and CVV code on it? SBI’s which debit card is accepted by Paypal?-Give its full name please!.
After enquiry on 22Feb2013 at SBI Branch, the authority told me that there is gold visa card available when bank a/c holder keeps minimum INR 5000/- in his a/c permanantly-i.e. a/c balance must be 5000/-
Hoever he hasn’t told me what will be the annual charges for that card.
I have already using SBI internet banking .I have a maestro atm cum debit card but it can’t be used for international shopping as it doesn’t have expiry date and CVV code.
I want to make some international payments thro’paypal and payza and mode asked is either through master card or visa card with expiry date and CVV code.
Plz suggest me which sbi debit card should i apply for..My a/c is a simple savings a/c.

hi mrinal buddekar thanks for information regarding the SBI classic debit visa enabled cards. it was really helpful for me to know about it. i earlier had a regular SBI debit cum ATM card with maestro logo which i feel useless when tried to do international online shopping like through paypal as there is no option for maestro powered cards to proceed the transaction which is so embarrasing. i somehow came across someone talking about visa and master powered SBI debit cards which i thought would work for the paypal transaction. so i called up the SBI customer care executive and blocked my maestro powered card and applied for a new master powered classic debit card which i got it today . unfortunately again i am disappointed to know that this card is of waste because it only works in india πŸ™ . please let me know whether can i do my transaction of buying some product through paypal by entropay method creating the virtual cards with my master powered SBI classic debit card as you mentioned above? is this possible? in case if it doesnot work even now through the entropay method is there any other solution for it? i just want to know that whether can i have another debit card powered by visa international which should be accepeted through paypal for international online shopping without cancelling my present one which is SBI classic master powered debit card(domestic) for a single savings bank account of mine?????? is this possible ?? if yes please suggest me which one ???

SBI Silver cards are for local and international use.. whereas classics only work in India. Both are VISA cards with CVV number and Expiry date. Its awesome for online purchases. If u got Mastero cards get rid of them πŸ˜‰

I have a SBI Classic Debit Card (VISA).
And I have to receive payments from abroad.
    I also have a Paypal A/c.
Now, How can I receive the Payment through Paypal?
Or can I use the debit card itself in the website to get paid?
    Please Reply ASAP πŸ™‚

As you have debit card you also must be having a bank account. Get verified by PayPal by attaching your SBI account. This is not regular verification. Your bank account will get attached to your PayPal account. After that as soon as you receive funds in your PayPal, then PP will initiate auto-withdrawal at end of day as per RBI norms. You can’t stop auto withdrawals in India.

Thanks a lot for this article. I was trying to top-up my entropay VCC with a sbi classic debit card but i am not able to do it. I tried with the websites in india and it worked. I don’t know what’s the problem and i get the following sms after failed transaction : “Dear customer, your txn at ATM 1000015 declined as the requested amount exceeds your daily withdrawal limit”. Today i had withdrawn only 100 rs from ‘swiping device’ ! Please help me, i contacted my branch and they say there’s no problem and when i contact toll-free number they say that i need to contact branch πŸ™
